Not just a scan.

The Photographic Archive of Cultural Texts is devoted to photographing culturally significant printed artifacts and preserving all of their details with ultra-high resolution photographs.

Rather than extracting an illustration from the original physical context, the archive records the physical character of the surviving artifact: bookplate images alongside adjacent pages, period typography, inscriptions, wear and other historical markings of each text.

The project exists in two closely related forms. The archive preserves a photographic record of each object, while selected photographs are produced as large-scale archival fine-art prints.
